Candy Buffet & Photobooth

My cousin got married few weeks ago. And Abah asked me to do wedding cake, candy buffet, chocolate fountain and photobooth. MasyaAllah..!! The wedding was in Ipoh. Imagine angkut semua barang using two cars. Padat.
 
 
 
Tapi it was fun. Hectic tu memang confirm la kan. Since I made wedding cake and 100+ cupcakes, for candy buffet sempat buat small cookies je. Yang lain semua beli or order from friends.
 
Dah penat-penat buat tapi gambar tak tangkap sangat. Memang tak menang tangan. Yup, it was hectic, I said it again. I think it's because the chocolate fountain. Tak sempat pun chocolate nak cair and flowy tapi orang dah keep on ambil. Huhu that's the fun part la kan.

I noticed kalau candy macam typical hard candy dalam small packaging kecik-kecik tu, orang tak amik sangat.
Unlike the chocolate ring, lollipop yang shape menarik, memang laju sangat habis.

Bought langsir dah siap kat Jakel (year end sale sangat berbaloi)
Kipas tu I made all of them. Sangkut-sangkut pun quite senang.
My brother helped me kejap before he helped my mom cucuk-cucuk buah.
Not bad juga la kan.
 
 
 
 
 
Overall, I kind of enjoyed doing all of that. Sebab kalau in future nak buat business ni, at least dah tau few things. Time buat untuk family ni la macam-macam boleh belajar from mistakes kan. Not that I'm saying that there are lots of mistakes. Just need more improvement.
 
Wedding cake and cupcakes will be updated at Sugar & Vanilla's blog which I think lambat lagi kot nak update. Ni tengah ikut turutan update blog tu. Yang latest one ni pun order bulan November punya. Tak tau bila bulan December punya nak update. Kikiki.

8 Glasses per Day?

Semalam baru discover how to minum air banyak in a day without the feeling of forcing it. And the answer is simple......Plan it..!!



One tall big glass - 300 ml. Total of 10 glasses per day. 3 liters per day.

Schedule below tak termasuk my daily tea intake. Just a small mug every morning. Tapi ada orang cakap, any liquid kira include as water intake. But I don't want to include kan yang mana ada sugar contain.

But I realized that this is a benefit of me being a cake decorator. Working kat area where there are hot ovens. Even at decorating table pun pakai kipas je. Banyak gerak sana-sini. Nak pergi toilet pun senang, rumah sendiri. I know it's hard untuk orang yang kerja kat office, duduk in an aircond room. Memang rasa nak gi toilet je kan kalau minum air banyak macam ni.


This is my schedule :

8am - Breakfast

1pm - Lunch
after 300ml

Before and after tu terpulang la nak tunggu half an hour ke tak. Elok nya tunggu. But typical me kadang minum je terus lepas makan.
 
 
 
 
Bila ikut ni, automatically I'll drink 10 glasses per day. And even kadang-kadang I will drink extra at 10 am and 11 pm (Kalau tidur lagi lambat, lagi banyak minum).
 
Dulu before buat this schedule, macam terlupa nak minum air banyak. I can drink only 5 glasses dari pagi sampai dinner. Lepas dinner baru nak minum lagi 5 glasses, memang susah sangat la.
 
 
 
I can't remember bila start minum air banyak. But seriously, I can see the power of minum air banyak. Lose weight tak la kot for me sebab memang kuat makan. Muahahaha. But my skin, memang beza sangat kalau minum air sikit and minum air banyak. One thing that I hate about terlupa nak minum air banyak, next day mesti migraine.

My Sunday

 
Yesterday teringin makan my homemade doughnut. And this time saja mengada guna butter extra mahal. Crunchy on the outside. Soft on the inside. Laju je habis kalau baru goreng.  
 
 
 
Oven yang digunakan sebagai proofing chamber.
Lama juga nak tunggu naik.
Kalau malas nak tunggu lama, put a bowl of hot water in the oven.
Do not switch on the oven. Kang ter-bake pula.
 
 

 
The reason why it is not for sale.
Don't care about the thickness.
Don't care about the shape.
Yang penting makan.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

 
Part yang paling leceh.
Yes, I love to eat it.
But part goreng and salut dengan gula laa part yang paling tak suka.
Tak boleh terlepas pandang.
Kena cepat-cepat.
Tapi tak boleh goreng banyak at one time.
And diri laa kat depan dapur tu sampai siap semua.

But ni lagi sedap because of the buttterrr.
Ecceyh puji doughnut sendiri.

Everytime buat doughnut, memang rasa extra penat.
Tak macam bake a cake.
Tapi after that memang sangat puas makan food that you make your own. Yeayy.

Macaron Lover

 
One of the best chocolate macaron.

RM 25 for 6 pieces. (If tak silap la)
Makes it RM 4+ each.
Yup, quite pricey tapi sangaaaat sedap.
 
They have other flavours juga. Tried green tea and few others. Not bad but the chocolate is the best.
 
Perfect feet.
Perfect shell.
Perfect texture.
Perfect taste.
Oh ayat sungguh typical pastry punya orang.

Anorexia

I know being an anorexic is bad. Very unhealthy. But at the same time, I kind of salute them. Because they have such determination to stop eating. Like how can they just say "No" to food.

Million times I tried to stop eating. But just few minutes after I made that decision, I'd be like "Uuuuu chocolateeee" and finished the whole bar within seconds.

Raya 2013 (Part 3)

Part 3 adalah berkenaan dengan sehari sebelum raya. Preparation day la konon nya.
 
Every family pun ada their own speciality dish(es). My family punya adalah rendang nasib, sambal goreng and ketupat. Tiap-tiap tahun pun masing-masing punya tugas sama je.
 
My tugas every year (nampak macam sikit tapi actually banyak sebab amount banyak sangat)  :
-kupas and blend bawang, serai, cili for rendang.

-isi beras dalam ketupat
-tolong kacau-kacau rendang kalau abang tengah take a break

Oh btw, gambar in progress tak la from A-Z sebab tak sempat sambil buat sambil tangkap gambor. End product semua tak ada gambar.




Rendang Nasib.
Dipanggil 'nasib' sebab ada daging, limpa, and paru. So nasib la bila ambil tu dapat apa.
 
 

 
Ni la yang dah di blend.
 
 

 
Tumis.
 
 

 
Masak ni sekali dua dalam setahun.
So kalau buat memang sangat banyak sampai kena masak belakang rumah.
Tradition dari monyang masak banyak-banyak untuk dibagi-bagi.
 
 
 
 
Tukang kacau yang asyik nak take a break je.
Tapi gempak juga la this year my brother and I dah pandai agak-agak quantity sugar, kerisik to add.
Sedap. Hee.
 





 Sambal Goreng.
Orang jawa memang akan makan ni.
Kecuali yours truly ni.
Habis kena kutuk dengan sedara-mara sebab tak makan.
Padahal I can speak the most bahasa jawa. Hehe tak ada la banyak sangat.
Tapi lagi banyak la dari diorang yang tak tau langsung.
"Tak cukup jawa kalau tak makan sambal goreng", they said.
 

 
Bahan-bahan.
Not in pictures - Udang, daging, asam jawa, belacan.
 
 

 
Tumis.
Sambal goreng my sister dah gempak buat from A-Z.
Tapi masih di guide oleh mama ku.
 
 
 
 
 
Ketupat.
 
 
I'm the only one who doesn't know how to meganyam ketupat.
Sebab every time pun I'm the one yang kena basuh, isi beras, ikat and all.
 
Makan ketupat memang sangat puas to compare with nasi impit.
Obviously la kan.
 
 
 
 
That's my raya. Tak tau la ada part 4 or 5 ke tak. Depend kalau time open houses tu rajin tangkap-tangkap gambar. Tapi selalu kalau pergi open house mesti senyum-senyum je. Tak tangkap gambar sangat pun.

Laddu

I just looove laddu. You should see my face everytime nampak ni kat mana-mana. Jarang makan sebab susah nak jumpa. Kat Shah Alam ni memang harapan la nak jumpa.
 
Abah selalu belikan dekat pakcik jual putu mayam atas motor somewhere in KL. And by 'selalu' I mean twice a year je kot. Yang ni memang sangat sedap. Ada juga certain places yang jual tak sedap.
 
 
Dulu kat MidValley ada booth jual ni. All the indian sweets. But then, tak lama diorang tahan. I even once pergi MidValley semata-mata nak beli tu. Sad when diorang dah tutup. 

I'm just a freak when it comes to laddu. Tak ada ke orang jual ni online macam jual cupcakes. Kan best :)




Ginger flavoured macaron somehow tasted like laddu so I ate that a lot masa buat kat academy dulu. Padahal I really don't like ginger.

Picture of a Cake

 
 
I wanted to spend on a lighting tent. Konon bila tangkap gambar dalam tu akan jadi lagi cantik. Asked AbdRhmn and he said no need. Sebab kat my house ada space and I already know how to make my own background.
 
So I googled on "how to take a professional picture of a cake". Tapi tengok semua pun tulis lebih kurang like I always do when it comes to take a picture.
 
 
 
 
 
This is my version of "how to take a professional picture of a cake". Even if you're not a photographer. Think about it, penat-penat buat cake berjam-jam. Tapi gambar tak cantik. Food orang akan makan so what's left are only the pictures.
 
 
You don't need a DSLR. A basic camera will do. Or even camera phone pun ok.
 
DOs :
1. Create a background for your cake.
2. Take pictures kat tempat terang.
3. Take all angles of the cake even if you're going to use only one picture.
4. Same as above, capture sebanyak mungkin gambar sebab bila masuk dalam computer, tak semua gambar nampak cantik.
 
 
DON'Ts :
1. Nampak background ada kain lap or dirty dishes or benda-benda yang tak sesuai ada dalam gambar. Unless kalau memang tu semua props.
2. Gambar gelap. Even bila edit kat computer pun tak boleh nak betulkan.
3. Tangkap gambar cake in a cake box or cookies in plastic. Tak cantik.

Tangkap gambar cupcakes dalam box siap nampak benda-benda kat tepi yang tak patut.
 
 

 
A very bad example.
Gelap, in a box, keliling sepah.
Designs pun tak cantik. Eeeii siapa la buat cupcakes ni :p
 
 
 
 
In plastic pun tak boleh juga.
Sebab nampak reflection lampu/flash bagai.
Or unless if you buat gubahan cookies dalam bakul.
Dah siap packaging everything and nak tangkap gambar as a whole. Kalau macam itu tak apa la.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

 
This was what I used to do.
Guna kertas keras.
But I don't like the fact nanti dalam gambar nampak the line of kertas bercantum tu.
And plus kalau cookies/cupcakes berminyak, kertas tu kena buang.

Didn't know what to use as background so I used penutup Tupperware.

Easy to basuh bila ada cookie crumbs merata.

Ni kalau tangkap gambar cake.
Just sangkutkan kain tu kat a place lagi tinggi.
Guna kain and there's no line.
Colours of the background is totally up to you.
Beli je banyak-banyak colour kain murah kat Jakel tu.
Or even tudung yang plain tak jarang pun ok.
But make it special for tangkap gambar je.
 
 
 
 
To me, kalau tangkap gambar untuk letak at your business's website, at least make an effort untuk letak gambar yang sedap di pandang. Not only sedap di makan. Cause all these are work of art. Sayang kalau penat-penat buat tapi gambar tak cantik.
 
If you upload kat instagram saja-saja, then it's ok untuk tak kemas sangat sebab tu macam laidback kind of picture place. Unless if you use instagram as a your business's website la. Then that's unacceptable.
 
It makes a huge deal ok. Cake cantik mana pun tapi kalau gambar tak cantik, not many yang akan view. I saw this one company yang jual cakes. They have the best pictures. Padahal gambar a simple cupcake with sprinkles je. But I still click to view besar-besar everytime they upload new picture even if their cake design biasa-biasa je. See the power?
 
 
 
 
Last but not least, people put a lot of efforts to make a cake sampai la upload gambar ke website. So for one to simply steal the pictures for both personal or business use, is just something yang tak dapat dimaafkan. Please faham and respect people punya effort. Hee just an advise :)

Cake Banner Tutorial



Or cake flag. The in-thing thingy you cucuk on a cake. Non edible.

So that day I made for my sister's birthday. Mama buatkan moist chocolate cake. Kalau buat cake fondant sure tak makan. Jadi I made the cake banner. Tak ada la gempak sangat but the basic is there.




 
1. Make sure you know the size of the cake. Mine was 8 inch so the bottom one I'll cucuk smaller than that size. So the top one to boleh agak-agak nak besar mana. Plus let the tali tu jatuh sikit (drape). Then only you cut the tali. I used any tali extra from orang bagi untuk ikat gift. If you don't have, use ribbon paling kecil.
Note : Kalau ada stick yang bigger will look nicer. I don't.
 
 
 

 
2. You can tie or you can put double sided tape at the stick and lilit the tali like I did to secure it.
 
 
 

 
3. Choose any ribbon, lace. I go with vintage style colour. Tapi sudahnya tak guna semua pun.




 
3. Cut each ribbon around 2 inch - 3 inch. And cut the hujung like that.
 
 
 
 
 
4. Try to susun dulu untuk tengok sesuai ke tak.
 
 
 

 
5. Put double sided tape kat bahagian dalam, in the middle of the ribbon.




 
6. Stick one by one kat tali. Try to buat kemas-kemas.




 
7. Done with the ribbons. It will look something like this.




 
8. Can tie a ribbon kat both end of the tali. Nampak lagi comel.
 
 
 

 
Then cucuk on the cake. Tadaaaaa.
The reason why I said kalau bigger sticks will look nicer.
 
 
 
 
 
 
Note : I'm not selling this at Sugar & Vanilla. Maybe not yet. That's why I put it here. But I'm selling that yummylicious moist chocolate cake with chocolate fudge topping.
